Fairfield Cares – What we do
Fairfield Cares Inc. is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
What are we doing, and what are our goals?
We had a Fairfield, Iowa, townhall meeting and asked the people what they wanted as they aged. The answer was clear and virtually unanimous. Everyone wants to remain independent and live in their own homes as long as possible. And no one wants to have to live in a nursing home.
Here are the solutions.
Mealtrain Plus
Meal Train is an on-line software service that allows a local Meal Train organizer to connect someone in need to volunteers to provide help. You can help a group of friends schedule times to bring meals, give rides, help with small tasks, etc. For example, someone recovering from an operation or accident might need a few weeks of help while healing up.
We gathered an army of volunteers, who would bring a meal, give a ride, provide some company, or just listen to a person’s story.

Home health care initiative
Our second layer of help is to build up a numbers of more skilled home care providers.
Our mission is to keep people happy and healthy in their own homes, thriving from cradle to grave. And to allow folks to age in comfort and dignity by staying in their own homes.
Eldercare homes – The Green House Project
The jewel in the crown in a new paradigm in elder care. We want to create a Green House Project in Fairfield, Iowa.
Green House Projects are not nursing homes (which are built on a hierarchical model). Green House Projects are built as homes. They’re about collaboration, cooperation, about people participating, people living there (the elders) as well as people who are caring for them. It’s totally different model. It’s much smaller, with only 12 or so elders per house. So it’s really a home.
Folks have freedom. They can help with chores if they want to. They can contribute meaningfully to the group experience.
